DREAMCATCHING 2013

Sorry for being late, but heres an update on ARGS 42nd International Understanding Day!

Our IU Day this year was held on 20th April 2013 at Wisma Chinese Chamber, Jalan Ampang. Our theme "Dreamcatching" is to promote the cultures (on both visual and performing arts) of the Americans' native, and also to raise awareness on poverty and eliminate racism in our society today, as most of the natives in the America are facing many racial and financial issues.

The emcees, Laynisha and Phyllis did a really great job in emceeing the event and bringing up the crowd. Our IU Day started with a brief introduction of the Board of Directors term 2012/13, followed by the roll call of clubs. Next, we had a factual sketch on the basic history of the native tribes and the arrival of modern Americans. Our IU Director, together with two other BOD members also performed a dance called The Evolution of Native Dance. Esther, our school's singer, together with a guitarist and keyboardist performed three songs before another dance performed by Phyllis and her dance team.

After a short break (with refreshments -- some snacks and sandwiches), our special guests, Ryan FooJoe and Elecoldxhot performed a few songs and dances, which got the crowd cheering at the top of their lungs. Then we had a short sketch on Pocahontas, a famous disney animation based on the real life of a native princess. Riskha, along with her dance team also performed a dance, followed by a Form Four Video Presentation about racism in the native society, directed by Laynisha. There was a last group singing performance led by our very talented Esther. Souvenirs (little handmade teepees) were presented to the representatives of every school and the event ended with a fashion show of the native American costumes and feather headdresses and tomahawks.

In between performances, lucky draw contests and Q&A sessions were held and winners were given little prizes sponsored by our generous sponsors.

On the IU Day itself, there were fundraising booths set up for selling little merchandises made for our IU Day. There were little native American themed button badges, and our Interact Club's collarpins, and T-shirts with Dreamcatching prints on them. The badges were priced at RM3 each while the T-shirts were RM20 each.

To sum it up, the IU Day was a great success! The attendees were more than expected and the tickets were almost sold out. We also received many positive feedbacks on the event and we appreciate them a lot. On behalf of ARGS Interact Club, we would like to thank everybody who attended and contributed to the 42nd IU Day, without you guys, the event wouldnt be this successful! Thank you so much for helping out and supporting!

Special thanks;
