The Formal Installation: Brand New BODs

On the 11th of September 2014, ARGS Interact Club had done the formal installation. The definition of the formal installation is bringing up the brand new BODs in accordance with the usual requirements. All of the ex-BODs and new BODs must wear the formal attire to attend the event.

Every ex and current BODs arrived at 2:30pm in SMK Puteri Ampang's hall. We set our chairs neatly for the photo-shoot later on. Meanwhile, the new President and Vice President went to wait for the pizza delivery and also three of the Rotarians.

At the same time, the other BODs were gathering in the hall and taking selfies to keep their precious memories. In about 20 minutes time, the Rotarians finally arrived and the President led them to the hall.

When the Rotarians arrived in the hall, the BODs gave respect and greeted to them. Then, the Rotarians gave some speeches. After giving speeches, they called out names and gave them the collar pins according to the order of the posts of BODs.

Lastly, they celebrated the event by eating pizzas together and sent them back. The event ends at 4pm. Every one of them were very happy and went home safe and sound.

SERVICE ABOVE SELF

Helping The Children in Need !!!

Interact Club is all about helping those in need and making a difference in the community. After all , "Service Above Self" is what interactors always say. Therefore, our club was thinking really hard on how we wanted to start the year. A trip to an orphanage? DONE THAT! Recycling Project? DONE THAT TOO! We wanted something different from the usual and therefore we chose to go to a Dyslexia Center in Ampang.

You may be wondering what is "dyslexia". Trust me, I didn't know myself until we found out about this center in Ampang. It is better known as developmental reading disorder. This includes difficulty with processing speed, coding, auditory short-term memory and rapid naming. In an easier way to say it, those who suffer from dyslexia, words and numbers are often moving around and playing with each other on papers.

For example, this is how they read alphabets. We often complain that Add. Maths and Physics is hard, but is this not even more pitiful? That was why we chose a Dyslexia Center. We wanted to learn more about it and help those who suffer from this disorder. And boy I can tell you, we sure did learn a lot and had the time of our lives!

DID YOU KNOW???
Actor Tom Cruise, scientist Albert Einstein, artists Leonardo da Vinci and political leader George Washington also suffered from dyslexia?

Anyways, straight to the point, our club organised a trip and the response we got was amazing. Together with our teacher adviser, we went to the Dyslexia Center and spent a few solid hours there. We divided ourselves into groups and were assigned to a few groups in which each group consists of around 6 interactors.

The interactors came up with exciting games and activities to entertain the children. All the activities we organized were educational and taught the children more about alphabets, colors and letters. The games held were all according to the levels of each student. For example, we taught level 1 students about numbers while level 3 students were taught alphabets and spellings. Presents and souvenirs for the children were also prepared as an encouragement to them. Not to leave out that we also donated cash and lots of stationery for them!

The children were definitely having the time of their lives.Laughter could be heard from every classroom. A high-5 may mean nothing to you but for them, they get so excited when you give them a high-5. It is a kind of encouragement to them that they can also do the things we do. Most importantly, our interactors were able to spend quality time with the children and at the same time learn more about dyslexia children. The Board of Directors were glad that the junior interactors learnt the real meaning of " Service Above Self".

This was no doubt a successful community service. For sure, I went back home feeling happy and satisfied.
(Yes, Imma proud Pres!) Big thanks and hugs to all those who came despite of the CNY holidays. Till we meet again, XOXO!

Viva La Interact!
